2025 Barbecue Hall of Fame® Finalists Revealed
American Royal announces ten barbecue front-runners contending for a position in the Hall of Fame

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 7, 2025) – The American Royal has revealed the top ten finalists contending for a position in the class of 2025 Barbecue Hall of Fame®, a top honor on the barbecue scene. The Barbecue Hall of Fame honors and preserves the rich heritage of barbecue by celebrating its history, documenting its evolution and educating others about the traditions that define the craft.
The following finalists were selected by a committee based on their contributions and achievements within the barbecue community:
• Phil Hopkins, Kansas City, Mo.
• David Klose, Houston, Texas
• Mark Lambert, Byhalia, Miss.
• Ben Lang, Houston, Texas
• Brad Leighninger, Nixa, Mo.
• Phillip McClard, Hot Springs, Ark.
• Roger Mooking, Toronto, Ontario
• Roy Perez, Lockhart, Texas
• Donny Teel, Springfield, Mo.
• Helen Turner, Brownsville, Tenn.
From this group of finalists, four individuals will be selected for induction into the Barbecue Hall of Fame, with the announcement set for May 21. The same day, the American Royal will also recognize three legacy inductees who made a lasting impact on the world of barbecue and reveal the recipients of the Impact Award, which honors a group of individuals for their lifetime commitment to barbecue.
This year’s inductees will be recognized at a black apron presentation and induction ceremony on November 8 during the 45th American Royal World Series of Barbecue®, in Kansas City, Kansas. For more information about the American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame, visit barbecuehalloffame.com.
