World Series of Barbecue® Debuts at the American Royal’s New Home This Week
WHAT
This week, the American Royal World Series of Barbecue® will be held at the organization’s new campus in Kansas City, Kansas for the first time. It will bring together more than 350 teams from around the world, including 22 international teams. This event is one of the American Royal’s largest fundraisers, supporting its mission to be the nation’s leader for food and agriculture education, events and engagement.
As construction continues across the new campus, this year’s event will offer a limited onsite experience. There will not be a main stage or activities for the general public this year. Barbecue enthusiasts can still get a taste of Kansas City barbecue by purchasing a ticket to PigaPalooza. This VIP experience grants access to the World Series of Barbecue grounds on Friday evening. PigaPalooza will feature a whole hog competition, full barbecue buffet and live music. Tickets and details are available at americanroyal.com.
Separately, guests invited to a specific team or corporate party may attend those private gatherings.
WHEN
Teams will be onsite Sept. 30-Oct. 4. Media are welcome any time throughout the week.
Abbreviated schedule:
- Wednesday and Thursday: Teams move in
- Friday: PigaPalooza and invitation-only team and corporate parties
- Saturday: Invitational competition and Kids Que
- Sunday: Open competition
