Celebrating a Heritage of Food & Agriculture
The American Royal is a not-for-profit organization with one simple purpose: to champion food and agriculture. The organization coordinates events and programs, including nationally competitive livestock shows, the world’s largest barbecue competition, regional and national equine shows, youth and professional rodeos, and elementary and secondary education outreach. All gatherings further the vision of a world where food and agriculture are celebrated and all generations are committed to its future.
History of The American Royal
The American Royal, beginning in 1899 as the National Hereford Show, grew from humble beginnings in a Kansas City Stockyards tent to become a cornerstone of Midwest agriculture. Over time, it expanded to include horse shows, rodeos and the renowned World Series of Barbecue®, symbolizing tradition and community for over a century.
From the original show of just over 500 cattle to today’s expansive events, The American Royal continues to educate and advocate for the nation’s food and agriculture.
