American Royal To Host Inaugural Spring Youth Livestock Show
Livestock champions will be crowned March 27-30 during the first-year event for youth exhibitors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 5, 2024) – The inaugural American Royal Spring Youth Livestock Show is slated for March 27-30 at the American Royal Complex in Kansas City, Missouri. Youth will exhibit prospect, market and breeding cattle, goats, sheep and swine.

The American Royal is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. Its legacy began in October 1899 with the first nationwide show for the exposition of purebred cattle, coined then as the National Hereford Show. Each year since, the organization has hosted its annual livestock show in the fall, which remains one of the largest and most respected shows in the country. The new spring national livestock show option will be the first of its kind in the U.S. for exhibitors.

“Hosting the inaugural spring show during our organization’s 125th anniversary is deeply aligned with the American Royal’s livestock show history,” said Jeff Nemecek, livestock event manager at the American Royal. “We are thrilled to offer this show for youth to exhibit at a premiere national event. Exhibitors, their families and guests can expect a high-quality show with top-notch competition across four species of livestock.”

In conjunction with the Spring Livestock Show, the American Royal will host a livestock judging clinic on March 27 from 2-4 p.m. The session is free to attend and will be led by Kansas State University Livestock Judging Team and its head coach, Dr. Payton Dahmer. Other events include an Easter egg hunt for exhibitors, youth showmanship competition and the National Swine Registry’s The Crown Showpig Sale. Animals may be entered on-site; however, the pre-entry period closes on March 15.
