Youth compete in American Royal Market Steer Show

KANSAS CITY—Junior beef exhibitors from across the nation competed in the 2013 Market Steer Show on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo. Jim Williams of Boling, Texas, spent more than four hours sorting through the high quality show steers, before selecting the champion.

Alex Alliger of Gowrie, Iowa, exhibited the Grand Champion Steer. Before receiving top honors, the 1,366-pound animal was first named Champion Division II steer. A.J. Line of Seaton, Ill., showed the Reserve Champion Steer, which weighted in at 1,320 pounds. Line’s steer first received Reserve Division II honors, placing behind the champion.

In Division I, Nathan Hilburn of Denver City, Texas, was selected as the Division Champion with his 1,306-pound entry. Andrew Hodges of Lebo, Kan., was selected as the Reserve Division I Steer with his 1,299-pound animal.

In Division III, Kennedy Core of Pleasantville, Iowa, was named the Division III Champion with her 1,390-pound entry. Following Core, Mackenzie Allen of Montague, Calif., was selected as the Division III Reserve Champion with her 1,447-pound steer.

The American Royal Association is a not-for-profit 501c(3) corporation that has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899.  Each year more than 270,000 people attend events at the American Royal Complex.
