KANSAS CITY—Junior lamb exhibitors competed in the American Royal Market Lamb Show on Thursday, Oct. 24, in Kansas City, Mo. Scott Greiner of Blacksburg, Va., sorted through three divisions and 24 classes of exceptional market lambs to find the champion. The Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by Hunter Gerths of Albia, Iowa. This 152-pound lamb was first named Champion Crossbred. The Reserve Grand Champion honor went to Shaylyn Price of Edgewood, N.M. Her lamb was first named Champion Hampshire and weighed 165 pounds.

Mackenzie Fruchey of Fayette, Ohio, received Reserve Champion Crossbred with her 163-pound entry. The Reserve Champion Hampshire was awarded to Garrett Goodwin of Ponca City, Okla., with his 134-pound lamb.

In addition to his champion crossbred, Gerths was awarded Champion Suffolk Market Lamb, with his 152-pound entry. Beth Zuber of Marengo, Iowa, was selected as the Reserve Champion Suffolk with her 164-pound entry.

The American Royal Association is a not-for-profit 501c(3) corporation that has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. Each year more than 270,000 people attend events at the American Royal Complex. In 2012, the Royal was able to give $1.4 million in scholarship and educational awards.
