Elder exhibits Supreme Heifer at 2012 American Royal: Official Release

Luke Elder of Dunlap, Iowa, led SULL Who Dat 1602, to the title of Supreme Champion Heifer at the 2012 American Royal.

KANSAS CITY–Ten individuals vied for the Supreme Heifer title at the 2012 American Royal on Sunday, Nov. 4. Luke Elder of Dunlap, Iowa, led his heifer, SULL Who Dat 1602, to the banner and $5,000 scholarship. She is an April 3, 2011, daughter of ASHW Who Da Man. Elder’s heifer was first chosen as the Champion AOB/Commercial Female.

The winner is presented the Stanley E. Stout Memorial Supreme Heifer Scholarship, an award given in honor of Stanley Stout, a former American Royal Board of Directors member and chairman of the livestock committee. This scholarship was created to commemorate Stout’s legacy while strengthening a foundation of support for youth in agriculture.

Each year, the winner of the Stanley E. Stout Memorial Supreme Heifer Scholarship receives a $5,000 scholarship, and all other breed champions are awarded a $500 scholarship.

Also in the drive were the Champion Angus Female, led by Danny Headley of Alma, Ill.; Champion Charolais Female, exhibited by Cagney Effling of Highmore, S.D.; Champion Hereford Female, led by Jake Sims of Edmond, Okla.; Champion Limousin Female, shown by Audrey Christensen of Blanchard, Okla.; Champion Mainetainer Female, exhibited by Kale Spengler of Durant, Iowa; Champion Maine-Anjou Female, led by Brandon Olivier of Harper, Kan.; Champion Shorthorn Female, shown by Reece Klug of Columbus, Neb.; Champion Simmental Percentage Female, exhibited by Mary Spencer of Gibbon, Neb.; and Champion Simmental Purebred Female, led by Kylee Sigmon of Berryville, Ark.

The American Royal Association is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899. Each year more than 270,000 people attend events at the American Royal Complex. In 2011, the Royal was able to give $1.4 million in scholarship and educational awards.
