Youth compete in the American Royal Market Hog Show
KANSAS CITY — Junior swine enthusiasts gathered in Kansas City, Mo., to compete for top honors at the American Royal. The American Royal Market Hog Show drew in youth exhibitors from 15 states.
Wayne Huinker of Decorah, Iowa, evaluated 248 market hogs on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Jake Keppy of Durant, Iowa, drove the Overall Grand Champion Market Hog with his entry that was first named Champion Yorkshire. The hog weighed 273 pounds. The Reserve Champion Market and Reserve Champion Yorkshire Hog was shown by Daniel Newnum of Kingman, Ind. His hog weighed 275 pounds.
The Champion Berkshire was exhibited by Kolby Lopp of Brookston, Ind., and weighed 278 pounds. Austin Newberry of Attica, Kan., drove the Reserve Champion Berkshire that weighed 279 pounds.
The Chester White champion was shown by Tyler Waitman of Purcell, Okla., and weighed 278 pounds. The Reserve Champion Chester White was exhibited by Brennen North of Wolcottville, Ind., and weighed in at 280 pounds.
Kaitlyn Kelley of Tahlequah, Okla., drove the Champion Duroc weighing 282 pounds. The Reserve Champion Duroc was exhibited by Tonya Fender of Lynchburg, Ohio, and weighed 289 pounds.
Dylan Cain of Chariton, Iowa, showed the Champion Hampshire, weighing 282 pounds. The Reserve Champion Hampshire was exhibited by Aaron Cain of Chariton, Iowa, and weighed 286 pounds.
Natalie Hofschulte of Wyandotte, Okla., drove the Champion Poland China that weighed 267 pounds. The Reserve Champion Poland China hog was exhibited by Sabrina Wilber of Cherokee, Okla., and weighed 285 pounds.
The Champion Spotted market hog was shown by Campbell Martin of Bucklin, Kan., and weighed 284 pounds. The Reserve Champion Spotted hog was exhibited by Emily Weinberg of Trenton, Ill., and weighed 272 pounds.
The Champion Crossbred was shown by Shelby Holmes of Lebo, Kan., and was first named Division III Champion the hog weighed 276 pounds. The Reserve Champion Crossbred was exhibited by Taylor Crouch of Tipton, Ind., first named the Division I Champion, and weighed 256 pounds. Natalie Hofschulte, of Wyandotte, Okla., exhibited the Division I Reserve Champion weighing 247 pounds. The Division II Champion was shown by Lexi Marek of Riverside, Iowa, and weighed 265 pounds. The Reserve Champion Division II was exhibited by Jaci Burgin of Spearman, Texas, and weighed 266 pounds. The Division III Reserve Champion was exhibited by Cheyenne Gaff of Jet, Okla., and weighed 276 pounds.
