New Show Dates

The 111th American Royal Livestock Show will be held October 22 through October 31. With the rising number of exhibitors attending and animals exhibited at the Livestock Show each year it was necessary to find a bit more breathing room. Therefore the show has been expanded to include two weekends of livestock excitement.
This expansion allows us the opportunity to add a few new shows as well. We have the return of the Pedigreed Breeding Gilt Show to be held on Saturday, October 23. The Miniature Herefords will have their first American Royal Show on Sunday, October 24. Also new this year will be two ABGA sanctioned Boer Goat shows on Tuesday, October 26 and Wednesday, October 27. The 2010 American Royal will also host the National Shows for the Hereford and Charolais as well as the Salers Junior Futurity.

New and Improved Parking Plan

If you are worried about the congested parking lots at the American Royal, don't be! We have a Plan! Of course with the expanded schedule some of the parking woes are eased with the fact that we aren't trying to squeeze everyone in on the same weekend. The following will give a glimpse of our plans for the lots this year: added parking area, designated one way load in/out areas, designated parking spaces striped special for "duallys". The gates onto the ground will be manned 24 hours a day this year and they will be collecting parking and gate admission fees. If you are planning multiple trips on and off the grounds you will want to be sure to purchase a parking pass and an exhibitor badge for each person traveling with you. (No admission fee for children 8 years and under.)

ABGA Sanctions Two Point Shows at Royal

More days on the calendar allowed us to include American Boer Goat shows in 2010. They will headline the schedule for the first time at the American Royal on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 26 and 27. Back to back point shows have magnified the interest in these events right out of the gate. Exhibitors may enter either or both shows. There will be a full slate of classes both days for percentage does, fullblood/purebred does, and fullblood/purebred bucks. The Premier Show on Tuesday afternoon will be judged by Eddie Holland, Bluffton, TX and the Classic Show on Wednesday morning will have Chip Kemp, Auxvasse, MO as official judge.

Pedigreed Gilt Show

New Show-New Scholarships

The National Junior Swine Association and Team Purebred have joined forces with the American Royal to sponsor a Junior Pedigreed Gilt Show in 2010. Gilts must be owned by junior exhibitors by August 1, 2010. Entries must be registered Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire, Landrace, Chester, Poland, or Spotted gilts that are farrowed on or after March 1, 2010.
Gilts may be entered and shown in only one division, gilts exhibited in this division are not eligible for the Market Hog Show. All exhibitors must be members of NJSA or Team Purebred. Each exhibitor is limited to a total of four gilts in this division.
At the conclusion of the show the respective Champion of each breed is then eligible to compete for the Supreme Champion Junior Pedigreed Gilt of the show. Each of the exhibitors of a breed champion will recieve a $300 scholarship. In addition, the Supreme Champion receives a special banner and award jacket.

Market Hog Update

The NJSA and Team Purebred are also joining forces with the American Royal to sponsor classes for registered market hogs. There will be classes, if numbers warrant, for registered Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire, Landrace, Chester, Poland, and Spots. The other breeds and crosses will show together in one division. The Market Hog Show continues to be a terminal show for all entries.
