AMERICAN ROYAL VOLUNTEER DINNER – APRIL 1, 2010
Volunteers are vitally important to the success of the American Royal. Each year hundreds of individuals donate their time and talents to further the Royal’s purpose of providing scholarships, education and competitive learning experiences. The 2009 volunteers were honored at an Appreciation Dinner held at the American Royal on April 1, 2010. After being welcomed by Cynthia Savage, 2009 Vice Chair of Volunteers, opening remarks were given by Jim McNair, President and CEO and Greg Maday, 2010 Chairman of the Board of Directors. After a delicious dinner prepared by Bichelmeyer Catering, awards were presented. Congratulations to all award winners – you’re the best!
WILLIAM AND MARGARET HARSH AWARD – CAROL PETRUS The William and Margaret Harsh Award was established to honor the memory of William Harsh, former American Royal President and his wife Margaret. It is appropriately named after two of the American Royal’s most devoted, beloved and respected volunteers. This prestigious award is the highest award given to an American Royal Volunteer for their efforts and service. Carol Petrus was honored as the recipient of the 2009 Harsh Award.
FAMILY SERVICE AWARD – GENE AND SHARON HARP The Family Service Award is presented each year to a family that exemplifies the values and ideals of the American Royal. The award is intended to recognize that family’s commitment, dedication and hard work. Gene and Sharon Harp, the 2009 recipients of this award have been volunteers at the American Royal for several years and work countless hours at many events. Dedication, spirit and family values certainly describe this family.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – PETE HANNASCH, JIM THOMSEN AND CARROLL SHIPLEY The Lifetime Achievement Award honors those individuals who have significantly contributed to the Volunteer Mission of the American Royal. Their outstanding work ethic and spirit inspire others to get and to stay involved at the American Royal. Pete, Jim and Carroll have been loyal supporters of the American Royal for many, many years. Some of you may remember a friendly pig named Jasper who entertained the children and parents who visited the Royal back when we were in the old building. Their friendly and entertaining personalities made them quite a hit with our visitors. They continued their service by volunteering for KALF Days, the BBQ, various Horse Shows, and most recently working the counter at the Livestock Show. We know them as those well-dressed and charming men who greet livestock exhibitors and are the first faces they see when they arrive at the show. You can’t ask for a better welcoming committee! We applaud them for their incredible loyalty and service to the American Royal.
